Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at Wiley Park! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
During Book Week, we had a visit from the amazing author Fiona Lloyd.
The children got super inspired to become authors just like her!
Fiona commented on Facebook
"I had the BEST school visit yesterday at Wiley Park Lakemba. Beautiful students, absolutely wonderful teacher librarian Gillian Maugle who is so dedicated and passionate about her library and kids. The smiles and engagement made me smile for the rest of the day"
NAIDOC Week
This NAIDOC Week, our students immersed themselves in a variety of fun and educational activities that celebrated the rich history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. From engaging sessions about significant tools and instruments to traditional art workshops, it was a great way to understand the deep connection First Nations peoples have with the land and to celebrate their amazing culture.
Chess Competition vs Punchbowl PS
On Thursday 28 August, students from Wiley Park PS visited Punchbowl PS to participate in a chess competition. A total of 23 students proudly represented our school.
The competition consisted of six challenging rounds. It was wonderful to see friendships continuing to grow between the two schools, while students also developed their skills by competing in a supportive yet competitive environment.
The highest-placed player for Wiley Park PS was Ahsan (6M), who remained undefeated across all six games. Ramin (6M) and Nadman (6T) also achieved excellent results, each losing only one match.
Congratulations to all students from both schools for their outstanding sportsmanship and progress in improving their chess skills.
Spelling Bee
Our Year 3-6 Spelling Bee is always a close competition and this year was no different. There were some fabulous spellers who were able to spell some very tricky words. Well done to all students involved with an en extra congratulations to our winners.
Beanies for Brain Cancer
It was a sea of beanies when our WPPS community took part in our annual SRC led Beanies for Brain Cancer fundraiser. All money raised went to the Mark Hughes Foundation.
Education Week Open Day
Students received an extra special WELCOME when they arrived at school on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, to celebrate Education Week. It was fantastic to see so many parents and carers visiting classrooms and engaging in a variety of learning activities alongside their children. The day provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the amazing work happening across the school.
News from the Library
There was lots of excitement when author James Foley visited our Stage 3 students. He discussed the writing process with our students and they got to ask some questions.
