Schools as Community Centres (SaCC)
Wiley Park Public School SaCC is a community centre based in Wiley Park Public School which provides a range of programs for local families with young children aged 0-8. It is a welcoming place for families to connect, learn and support their children’s development. Through playgroups, parent workshops and community programs, we bring families together and help them access useful information and local services.
We celebrate our diverse community and work with families and community organisations to give children a positive start to learning and school life.
Play, Learn and Connect
Our Early Learning Playgroup supports families with children aged 0–4 years. Children can explore, play and learn alongside others, while parents and carers meet local families and share experiences.
Activities help children build communication and social skills, strengthen their hand and finger movements, and discover early reading and number concepts through play. Our playgroups have included sessions delivered in partnership with Koorana Child and Family Services.
Supporting parents and carers
Our SaCC brings parents and carers together to build confidence, share ideas and learn practical ways to support family life.
Programs and workshops have included:
- Parent Child Mother Goose, delivered with Creating Links, supporting positive connections and communication between parents and children.
- Parent workshops with Prosper Australia, exploring topics such as cyberbullying, self-care and managing children’s behaviour.
- Water safety and CPR education with Royal Life Saving NSW, helping families learn important safety skills, including how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Healthy, active families
We work with community partners to help families explore healthy eating and enjoyable ways to stay active.
Past programs have included Nutrition for Mums and Bubs, delivered with Bankstown Women’s Health Centre. Families explored nutritious meals and school lunchbox ideas with a qualified dietitian, alongside group exercise led by a fitness instructor from Glow Gym.
Families have also participated in Go4Fun, a program supporting healthy eating, physical activity and children’s self-esteem.
Getting ready for Kindergarten
Our SaCC supports children and families as they prepare for the move to school.
Through our Targeted Kindergarten Program, children have opportunities to practise early reading and number skills, enjoy art and craft, take part in outdoor activities and learn alongside other children. Activities also help children build confidence, develop friendships and practise skills such as sharing and taking turns.
The program helps families become familiar with school and feel more confident about their child’s next step.
