NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.
Write to the school if you wish to withdraw your child from special religious education, sometimes known as scripture. Special education in ethics is an option for your primary-age child if you withdraw them from special religious education. For more information, visit Religion and ethics.
Special Religious Education Classes
Special Religious Education Classes (SRE) takes place at Wiley Park Public School on Wednesday afternoons when scripture teachers are provided. Parents/caregivers in public schools have the right to have their children receive instruction in their preferred religious persuasion, where authorised teachers are available.
Below is the list of approved Special Religious Education programs currently provided at the school with links to their website that contains the curriculum that is taught during SRE classes:
- Catholic (Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney)
- Islam (Islamic Council of NSW)
- Baptist Churches of NSW & ACT (Christian)
Students are placed in SRE classes based on the information provided in their enrolment form. If a religious persuasion is written on the enrolment form and available at the school, then the student will be placed in that SRE program. Parents/caregivers may at any time notify the school in writing that they wish to withdraw their child from SRE.
Students not attending SRE are provided with alternative meaningful activities.
